Frequently asked questions
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to have questions about how it works. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions people ask before beginning. If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to get in touch.
What is psychotherapy and how can it help me?
Psychotherapy provides a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Working together, we can make sense of difficulties, develop coping strategies, and work towards meaningful change. Many people find it helpful for issues such as anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or processing past experiences.
What does “integrative” therapy mean?
Integrative therapy means I draw from different therapeutic approaches rather than using just one model. This allows me to tailor the work to your unique needs. My emphasis is on collaboration; we decide together what feels most useful and relevant for you.
What does “trauma-informed” mean?
Being trauma-informed means I am mindful of how past experiences may continue to affect you. I work at a pace that feels safe, respectful, and supportive, with particular care for boundaries, trust, and choice throughout the process.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults aged 18 and over, from all backgrounds. You don’t need to be in crisis to start therapy, some people come because of specific challenges, while others simply want space for personal growth and reflection.
How often are sessions and how long do they last?
Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly, lasting 50 minutes each. We’ll agree together on what feels most manageable and supportive for you.
How many sessions will I need?
There’s no set number. Some people benefit from a short-term focus (6–12 sessions), while others choose longer-term work. We’ll review regularly so you can decide what feels right for you.
What happens in the first session?
Our first meeting is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to gain, and whether we feel comfortable working together. You’re welcome to ask any questions about the process.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is treated with respect and confidentiality. There are a few legal and ethical exceptions (for example, if there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others), which I’ll explain clearly at the start.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer sessions in three formats: Face to face, walk and talk and secure online video sessions via Google Meet. You can choose whichever format works best for you, and we can also have any combination of all three.
